In contrast to the crap weather in the UK in August, the opposite was the case in Cape Town in February where we went to shoot for ourselves three new Back Catalogues and for Disco Biscuits a picture called ‘Wrapped Virgins’. A bald headed publisher we know had proposed further BCs based upon the original Back Catalogue for Pink Floyd back in 1996 comprising a group of naked women sitting on the edge of a swimming pool chatting amongst themselves and sporting images of old album covers painted upon their backs. By changing the women, the location and the images on their backs variations are feasible and attractive, maintaining the motif and spirit of the original but ringing the changes.
Previous BCs were all photographed inside; it seemed time to shoot outside. We made a plan to visit Cape Town where locations are gorgeous, as are the women, but above all the light is fantastic. Rupert and Dan came along with Caroline the body painter and we did Outback, Beach and Black catalogue. We have so far only completed Outback catalogue featuring Tree of Half Life (Pink Floyd), Televators (The Mars Volta), Lamb Lies Down (Genesis), Moroccan Roll (Brand X) and Bury the Hatchet (The Cranberries).
